Hi Ho,
Here is a very simple way to reduce the cost of fabric softener. In my basement, it could sit nicely next to the Home Made Laundry Soap I blogged about earlier….but I admit that I use those laundry balls in the dryer to reduce cling instead. Anywho: some folks have been requesting a yummy-scented [...]

Frugal Homemade Fabric Softener
Conventional Advice and Conspicuous Ommisions
I hear a lot of everyday advice that does not sound like good advice in either some situations or in all. For singles, buying food in bulk makes little sense, unless it’s a staple that will last a long time. I hear a lot of advice about how to save money on your car, but, [...]
My Latest Trip to Mike’s Discount Food’s
Greetings Everyone,
Quick entry about my recent trip to a “Mike’s Discount Foods” location here in the Twin Cities. They have three stores that I am aware of, all in Anoka County. Mike’s is smaller than a typical grocery store, and their inventory changes frequently. The stocked goods consists of over-runs or recently expired food from local grocers. Mike’s offers [...]
Meatless Mexican Casserole
Allright,
Here’s a quick recipe that I made just last night—-took me about 15 minutes. Then, after work today, I can go home and pop it in the oven for 25 minutes and BAM! Done. It freezes pretty well for single lunches, and it’s both vegetarian and lent friendly.
Enjoy!

New Credit Card Regulations
Top o the Morning Fellow Readers,
Months and months ago, lawmakers aimed their sites on credit card companies—for the first time in decades. Last Thursday, they (the Office of Thrift Supervision or www.ots.treas.gov) finally decided on and approved a few changes that should help us (the consumer). One thing to be aware of, however: these changes won’t [...]
Dan Gilbert on Irrational Cost Comparisons
Dan Gilbert is a “positive psychologist”, which means that he studies what makes people happy. He has a lot to say about our decision-making processes and why we tend to sabotage ourselves by making irrational decisions. In this talk, he discusses price comparisons and why we often make decisions that don’t make sense. For example:

Q: How much does a travel mug cost at Target?
A: It depends on where you look.
I decided to spring for a travel mug instead of reusing the cups I get in coffee shops. While doing a general shopping trip at Target, I found travel mugs in no less than 4 locations. There may have been more, only one of these locations did I go [...]
“Great Expectations”—a salary-reality check
Greetings Fellow Readers,
A recent chat with my 5 siblings, the youngest being 19, centered around jobs and salaries. One sibling was recently laid off from an industrial/manufacturing job, and one graduates from St. Thomas College tomorrow afternoon with a four year degree in accounting. The youngest has a retail job while she attends college. One is in [...]
How Much are you Willing to Pay for “Free” Shipping?
I’m grateful for free shipping at online stores. However, in order to get the “free” shipping, I would be required to spend more than I would normally would in one trip to a brick and mortar store. To be fair, www.Amazon.com has a $25 minimum purchase—and that is reasonable enough, but I probably won’t be spending $100 at www.gap.com.
It’s worth [...]
Puppy Chow…or “A Fav Appe-teaser”
Ladies and Gentlemen (and the rest of you),
This could be the moment you have in fact been waiting for. If you are a person who needs a simple appetizer for a potluck type gathering, this is what you need.
If you don’t want to mess with a stovetop, oven, or freezer in order to make a [...]
